On April 11, 2011, the Belgian University Rectors Mission met with Hue University Directorial Board, member college rectors, deans and directors of faculties and centers under Hue University. The visit was a chance for universities of both sides to understand each other for future cooperation.
According to President Nguyen Van Toan, Hue University is a multidisciplinary education center which is upgrading itself to international level. To that end, Hue University is fostering cooperation with international universities to share experience and improve management and training quality. Among European partners, Belgian universities are of Hue University priority. Prof. Sorgeloos Patrick, President of VLIR-OUS emphasized that all cooperation is based on 3 main pivots: training, research and community service. Many Belgian Master and Ph.D scholarships have been granted to Vietnamese students. At the meeting, the Belgian University Rectors hoped to realize the cooperation, after both sides found areas of mutual interest such as agriculture, marine production, food processing, human ecology, biotechnology, public health, computer sciences, etc. Currently, Hue University is implementing Lotus scholarship program under Lotus Project. Lotus Project is a cooperation program lasting 48 months in the field of education and training between higher education institutions in Europe and Asia.
